"The belief that you have to sacrifice yourself to leave your entrepreneurial mark is a myth."
My goal is to help side hustlers, solopreneurs, and other non-traditional entrepreneurs, not only because I believe every individual has the power to impact the world, but because I am a successful non-traditional entrepreneur myself. I launched and bootstrapped my first startup, So Quotable, as a solopreneur at the same time I became the primary caretaker of my infant son. The app got enough buzz to land me my first TED Talk and connected me with two others to bootstrap my second startup, Cuddlr, a platform that connects people for hugs. The app gained 100,000 users in its first week, topping the Apple App Store twice and landing us on the cover of the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. The app was acquired less than a year after we launched, a few days after my son’s second birthday.
I found success as a thirty-something African-American stay-at-home dad, which, according to the mythology I was told when I lived in Silicon Valley, was an impossibility. As I connected with others, though, I began to realize that diverse, non-traditional entrepreneurs like myself were going to become the norm.
Now I am dedicated to helping others discover and tap their greatness.
