As we come together to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy in January, the first episode of 2023 features conversations between two Sky’s the Limit entrepreneurs, Jo Sesay, Founder of Black Roots, a wellness company dedicated to holistic care through herbalism and De’Shera Benton, Founder of D. Milan Hospitality and Manager, Member Experience at Sky's the Limit.
Jo has a masters in psychology and addiction counseling as well as herbalist training. As the founder of Black Roots, she curates herbal tea blends, products and workshops to encourage holistic living through herbalism.
“I come from proud black roots that I didn’t know affected me until I started finding myself. The sheer joy I had when I discovered much of my apothecary holds herbs my ancestors worked with on the continent and most likely here is unmatched! Each herb is a reminder that I am in the lineage of people who learned to formulate herbs to help their communities in need. It’s through watching black women in my family cook from scratch and fill their libraries with holistic books. Hearing phone calls and going on visits between kin to see what natural remedy they could suggest. I use that to encourage, teach and empower others to grow their own roots. We all get a gift to give. So, I’m offering my BLACK ROOTS.”
