Shira Goldsmith

Shira Goldsmith, based in Cleveland Heights, OH, is Founder of Goldsmith Swim School, providing swimming lessons for everyone, regardless of special needs, anxiety, developmental delays or socio economic difficulties.

Shira has been an educator for over 15 years in the pool and in the classroom. At age 15, she first became a lifeguard and has worked in various swimming jobs since then, both teaching and  lifeguarding. As a passionate swimmer, Shira regularly goes to the pool for her own health and fitness. 

Shira has a masters degree in Special Education and is a licensed Intervention Specialist. She has been teaching at the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland for 5 years during the school year and runs her business and teaches swimming when she's not in the classroom.

As an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and first aid and CPR instructor, Shira offers the full spectrum of swimming safety. She's also certified as a BLS Instructor with the American Heart Association. 

"After 15 years of teaching as my full time job and swimming as a hobby, I have seen more and more how the shortages of trained lifeguards and swimming schools are affecting kids. I am a American Red Cross lifeguard instructor, Intervention Specialist, and a passionate swimmer. My goal is to help make as many kids possible water safe to prevent drownings. Due to my background in special education, I have had great success in teaching kids with autism, anxiety, developmental delays, as well as neurotypical kids," said Shira.

Shira was running a successful business and was ready to expand. As this was new phase in her business, she looked to Sky's the Limit mentors to support her in how to reach her goals in these uncharted territories. Shira wanted to utilize technology to get there, but had limited knowledge. That's why she reached out to mentors, Greta Hart and Cameron Cox to help her raise funds to build a new facility to grow her thriving business.

Shira told us, “I have a very successful small business, but as I am trying to expand and construct a new building, I am hitting a lot of roadblocks because I am not very well connected or familiar with technology."

Building off of her more than 15 years of working at the crossroads of growth marketing, business development and international market expansion, Greta was able to help Shira with what she needed. Additionally through his own experience as entrepreneur, Cameron provided the support that she was looking for. Collectively, they helped her expand her knowledge of different social platforms, grow her following and know what content to post on the channels. As a result of this work together, Shira has received funding on her crowdfunding pages.

And with the support of her mentors, she was able to achieve seven key milestones, which moved her business forward and also gave her the opportunity to see the great progress she is making, giving her momentum to do more! Shira shared with us, "They have helped me publish the work that I am doing, and this is helping me grow and move forward."

The mentorship she received from Sky's the Limit well-positioned her to meet her expansion goals. Beyond her original goals, Shira has gained the knowledge and skills to better market her business now and into the future.
