Tara Payne

About my business

Tara Payne, a Founder of two businesses – Payne Creative Consulting Group and Mavens Meet – designed to give entrepreneurs the time-freedom to work on growing their businesses and to form connections that lead to success.

Tara launched Payne Creative Consulting Group to offer direct, personable and professional General Administrative support to entrepreneurs. In parallel, she launched Mavens Meet initially as a professional women’s support organization – and it’s since evolved into a technology platform that not only helps bring entrepreneurs together, but also offers career and training opportunities for professional virtual assistants.

”I was looking for a way to marry passion, purpose and pay. My parents raised my sisters and me to take care of one another and our community. I came to appreciate this sentiment and coupled it with my care and love for supporting people. After years of being told I should use it to start a business, I finally realized that what I thought was just a "knack" for connection was a skill that had the potential to benefit not just me but also those around me,” said Tara.

In 2019 she left the demands of a very stressful career in financial services behind. She credits her time in financial services to reigniting her desire to find out what she was created for – and a way to live the life of her dreams.

Business mentoring story

Like many entrepreneurs, Tara has limited resources to build this business, so she was grateful to have the support of Sky's the Limit mentors to give her the resources and support she needed to make progress on her business.

One of the hardest parts of running a business is knowing what to do to continue to move it forward. Fortunately for Tara she met Sky's the Limit mentor Martha Isabel Zapata, who founded a nonprofit that provides business and entrepreneurship education in Spanish and English. After Tara's mentoring sessions with Martha, she learned what options were available to her, was better equipped to run her business and was armed with the tools to overcome some of the challenges she was facing.

In addition to Martha, Tara has worked with several Sky's the Limit mentors, giving her the support she needed along the way – including accomplishing milestones. Achieving her business milestones validated to her that she was on to something and people need what she has to offer.

Sky's the Limit awarded her with a grant that came at a time when she was really discouraged. "I felt like God was saying...I see you. You're on to something...Don't stop," said Tara.

Today Tara enjoys her work as a creative consultant, published author, moderator and speaker.

Here's some encouragement from Tara to entrepreneurs just starting out: "Use what you have and start where you are. Surround yourself with likeminded individuals. Rest and don't quit!"
