About my business
Aliké Chambers is the founder of Oni Threads, a samurai-inspired streetwear brand that creates “Armor for the Everyday Warrior.” Each piece of Oni Threads apparel is rooted in authentic Japanese art and lore, designed to be both wearable art and a statement of cultural heritage. The brand serves cultural heritage enthusiasts and creatively driven individuals who are disillusioned by fast fashion and crave deeper meaning in what they wear. Oni Threads is redefining streetwear by offering not just clothing, but connection—blending storytelling, tradition, and empowerment into every stitch.

Business mentoring story
The vision for Oni Threads was born out of rejection—and reclaimed as resilience. After being told she wasn’t an “aesthetic fit” in a professional setting, Aliké turned that painful moment into a spark for her creativity. She wanted to build something that celebrated individuality and cultural depth—a brand where people could wear their stories with pride. But launching Oni Threads came with real barriers: no family loans, no safety net, and no capital to legitimize the business.
That’s where Sky’s the Limit stepped in. The platform gave Aliké the opportunity to win her first-ever grant—a $2,500 Friends & Family award that became the lifeblood of her business. With those funds, she registered Oni Threads as an official LLC and launched her first professional vendor booth, which quickly sold out and fueled the brand’s growing presence in her community.
Through pitch practices, networking events, and resources like the 1-Page Business Plan and elevator pitch guide, Aliké found the clarity and structure she needed to articulate her brand’s story. The application process itself became a form of strategic development—teaching her how to build a compelling case for her business and future funding opportunities. Sky’s the Limit didn’t just open a door—it gave her the tools to walk through it.

“Sky’s the Limit gave me my first-ever funding and the first real validation of my business. That grant made Oni Threads real—not just in paperwork, but in spirit.”

“If you’re underestimated or underfunded, Sky’s the Limit can be the difference between a dream deferred and a business launched. It was a lifeline for me.”
