Making Sales

How to Target Your Customers

This project guide helps two Sky’s the Limit members work together through four meetings as they collaborate to create customer profiles.

Meeting 1: Discuss customer segments and identify top 3

Before this meeting:

In this meeting:

  • Use the Customer Deepdive guide to help you identify who your customers are. Think through how your product or service works to solve a problem in their lives.

  • Look for three different groups of customers that use your product or service. It may be helpful to think of three existing customers you have.

After this meeting:

  • Sleep on it! See if you’ve missed anything or if there’s anything you’d like to add.

  • Note any agreed-upon next steps.

Meeting 2: Profile customer 1

Before this meeting:

In this meeting:

  • Think about the first customer group you identified in your last meeting. List out their basic characteristics. Use the customer segmentation guide to take notes.

After this meeting:

  • Check your assumptions! Look for people in this segment online. Social media is a great place to do research and find out more about your customer segments.

  • Note any agreed-upon next steps.

Meeting 3: Profile customer 2

Before this meeting:

In this meeting:

  • Think about the first customer group you identified in your last meeting. Were your assumptions correct? Do you need to revise anything based on your research?

  • Now, think about the second customer group. List out their basic characteristics. Use the customer segmentation guide for notes.

After this meeting:

  • Check your assumptions! Look for people in this segment online. Social media is a great place to do research and find out more about your customer segments.

  • Note any agreed-upon next steps.

Meeting 4: Profile customer 3

Before this meeting:

In this meeting:

  • Think about your second customer group. Were your assumptions correct? Do you need to revise anything based on your research?

  • Now, think about your third group. List out their basic characteristics. Use the customer segmentation guide for notes.

After this meeting:

  • Check your assumptions! Look for people in this segment online. Social media is a great place to do research and find out more about your customer segments. Revise your notes as needed.

  • Be sure to mark your project complete, update your business tracker, and start a new project!
